internet with stripped windows

I recently installed the stripped version of windows xp with sp2. The problem is I can not connect to the internet. My network controller doesn't even show up in my network connections panel. I checked the device manager and the driver is installed and it says it is working properly.

Anyone have any suggestions? I dont really NEED internet as the computer is going back into my car, but it would be nice to be able to download a few things before it goes back in. Thanks in advance.

Thats an easy one.

There is an issue with windows networking... probably due to the fact that the windows is stripped down.

Check msconfig for applicable services (e.g. DHCP service, etc)

Check that the Network Awareness etc services are started/included.

specifically which ones should be there and running??
