Red, you've seriously got a 40MB functional OS?
I should really look into nLite then.

Have you considered booting from a flash memory instead of the HDD?

40mb is the memory footprint, not the hdd space it uses...

would booting from flash memory mean quicker boot up times?

    I'm sure that's a damn n00b question, but I'm a n00b on this relm of stuff.

I've got a CF card slot on the board so I could use that for a solid state card for booting, right?

Nope... from what i've read and my tests most CF solutions are actually quite slower than an hd... SFiorito was testing a usb disk-on-chip solution that was to be quite fast...dunno...

Pardon the Noobish question, I tried to research but with no luck.
What's a memory foot print and how is it calculated?

Im pretty sure it means the amount the RAM used when windows is loaded...
for example the pic below shows the amount of ram being used in my MCE machine....

Thanks camsgs3, I was thinking along the same lines and in-fact did press Ctrl+Shift+Esc before posting.
But I still don't get which memory is it referring to? Physical, Commit Charge, Kernel, or Page File?

I suppose if I've already got it lower than that (20-25 somewhere in there), then this wouldn't do me much good hu?
Bootvis is a microsoft diagnostic tool. It has a function called optimize that will work on any speed machine. So if you running 20 secs startup now, it may be able to optimize it to 17 seconds. Run optimize three or four times.
