    nLite v. TinyXP

    What are the differences here?

is TinyXp not as customizeable as nLite? is TinyXP just completely stripped down while nLite can be left alone a bit more?

if there's already a thread discussing this somewhere in here, please point me to it.

A quick glance through didn't yield anything.

Tiny XP AFAIK is an already slimmed down version of xp using nlite
her is a guide to how hes done it
also a linkto the different versions

i really want to run tiny but i dont think i can get phoco to work with it
and thats a deal killer for me

yOU ALSO MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT XPLite OR 2000Lite they are somewhat the same thing (stripping services etc) they just can do it after the install

I'm currently running an nLited version of XP, and am liking it. I've heard of XPLite, but after talking with some friends (who know more about PCs than myself) and after showing them nLite, they seemed to be more impressed with nLite than XPLite....has anyone else experienced this?

    thanks for the post lostresponse!

yes from what ive heard nLite is better they are really 2 totally different programs tho nLite is designed at install time to put a modified version of xp on your hd and XPLite is an app you run after your installed.
nLite has the advantage because it can prevent the "crap" from being loaded while XPlite can only patrol for the "crap" and tell it to leave

From my experience, TinyXP is great (rev04) but is design for gamers. In a car environment, the software written around here may need some components not in Tiny. Roadrunner and everything works great. Bootvis optimize however, won't run. So I would say spend some time and use the TinyXP Guide with nLite to configure your components exactly as you need them.

Rev04 runs base 40mb ram which is great, you should be able to achieve nearly the same thing with nLite.

I've gotten nLite down to about 40 megs, I believe for the car as well...

there's not a whole lot in XP I need in the car.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to go look up this 'bootvis' you mentioned to see what it is.

regarding the bootvis - 30 seconds hu?

I suppose if I've already got it lower than that (20-25 somewhere in there), then this wouldn't do me much good hu?

Instead of doing nlite and XPlite, has anybody tried doing a car pc with Windows PE or Bart's PE? That would probably minimize install space and speed up booting.
