    Horm confusion

So I just enabled hibernate and put a resmany.dat file on the root of drive c: enabled ewf and restarted. But when the system hibernates it doesn't revert back to the original horm state. It remembers windows I've opened and programs I've started When I look at the modified date and time on the hiberfil.sys it hasn't changed.
I have to be missing something dumb
    Please help

It won't change with the EWF enabled if I remember correctly. It's now going to be read only. Sounds like you need to disable ewf, redo your hibernation, then enable your ewf again. It sounds like you went into hibernation with programs open.

Are you using the xpepm to hibernate?

I'm not too sure as never ran into this problem exactly. You may want to PM SFiorito.

Ok, this is for all the people who are dumb like me and need it spelled out for them. To use Horm when you enable hibernate do not set the computer to hibernate when the power button is pressed. Leave it as shutdown the computer. This solved my issue (so far )

When I had mine set up in EWF, I just powered off, forget graceful shutdowns.

Apparently from what I've read hibernate is not effected by EWF so when I set the computer to hibernate when the power button is pressed it would save the state. I fixed it by setting the power button to shutdown. Then after enabling EWF I did a manual hibernate. This set the state. After that the computer shuts down but when it restarts if comes out of the hibernated state.

EWF and resmany.dat prevent the hibernation file from being reset so that when you boot it always resumes. If you run -commitanddisable -live after resuming from hibernation then you commit the reset flag in the hiberfil.sys file.

But even with those installed when I had my PC set to hibernate instead of shut down it would remember what changes I had made but the modified date on the hiberfil.sys stays the same. Once I set it to shut down it resumes from the hibernated state on bootup but the changes are lost. My resmany.dat is a 0kb file, should it have any data in it?

No, no data should be in it, I think it just checks to see if the file exists. I don't think it uses the contents for anything at all.

If you rehibernate it'll use that new hibernation point. When you hibernate, I'm pretty sure it bypasses any filter drivers installed such as EWF. It was working as designed....
