Hibernate resume in 4s

This might kill you guys on here. I used to be one of those PC users that disabled everything under the sun, to ensure windows only used 14 processes and used 60mb RAM. Those days have changed and I've since realised it is a lot more stable with everything factory.

Well, my CarPuter (Toshiba Tecra A2), was just restored with the manufacturers CD, I didn't bother uninstalling any of their apps apart from Norton and that was because it was a demo. So it boots with about 15 things in the tray.

The funny thing is however, this thing doesn't POST, so after hitting the power button, it resumes from hibernate in about 4 seconds to RR running. As described here... (http://mp3car.com/vbulletin/showpost...73&postcount=3) I set my computer up so it boots only when the IGN is live. So after turning my key, the computer is pretty much booted whilst cranking - doesn't it make you sick.

Its spec is...

Pentium M 1.8 GHz
512 MB
80 GB (60% Full)
Integrated GFx
Windows XP Pro

I thought I'd share the fact that you don't neccessarilly need nLite or TinyXP to have a fast booting computer.

Ps. Ordinary boot is about 15s.

Nope, not standby, from standby it will resume instantly, there is no delay. I can film it with my camera if you like?

lucky bastard. my takes about 10-15 seconds to fully resume from hibernate (including POST, which takes about 5 secs).

Ok I upped the video...it was 6s not 4, so I was a little off, it just took a little longer than usual this time round.

BTW, the computer is completely stock, it is just fresh after the Toshiba restore process. So System Restore is still enabled, Disk Indexing is still enabled etc. along with the 15 tray applications that boot. I haven't even bothered to optimise the system, so shows what Windows XP Pro is really capable of.

Mine usually only takes about 8 to 10 seconds, including post, to resume from hibernate. It's not that unbelieveable.

That is awesome though blessani, that's probably the fastest I've seen.

filmed on a camera phone. Ihave seen folk posting there 0-60 times filmed on a camera phone saying the got it in 7s when it was 10 due to camera phones only capturing at 15fps.

Anyways that is very poss after clean install but wait till its been used for a month and that boot time will get slower and slower

It wasn't filmed with a camera phone...it was filmed with my cousins Sony DSC-T9 @ 30 FPS. Then re-encoded to WMV @ 25 FPS, whilst still maintaining the original track length. And why would it be quicker if it captured less FPS - it would still take the same amount of time, there would just be a lot more dropped frames, ie. more jumpy/laggy. If anything, it should take longer because the camera is waiting longer for its next frame.

Its been running for 2 weeks so far, and since the install, I have completed filled the HDD now, its at 95% with all original services with boot, plus GPS/Bluetooth/WiFi.

I know Windows slows down - but there is little/no temporary files being used because I simply don't use the internet on this machine.
