Mojopac - this looks really cool!

I saw this on engadget yesterday... I wonder how this would help with small footprint systems...

    www.mojopac.com

mojopac basically allows you to store your home desktop environment, including installed applications on a portable USB 2.0 drive (even an iPod).

You boot up your carPC into XP (say you are using TinyXP). Connect your MojoPac and it is recognized as a USB device. It loads up a "mojo toolbar" and you can "switch" between host PC (your car PC) and Mojo PC. When the mojopc takes over, it "becomes" your C: drive. You can install applications DIRECTLY to the MojoPC as well.

What I am guessing this will allow is using HORM & tinyXP to boot really fast. Use XP and load NO apps. Then connect the USB drive running mojoPC. It has all of the apps, etc. on it. It allows you to get to the desktop quickly, load the apps off of an external device, and (should) save some wear & tear off of your CF card, assuming you are using one of those for your CarPC. Then in the future if you decide to install a different CarPC front-end, install it right to the MOJOPC and you don't have to worry about disabling the write protection stuff, hibernating, and then re-enabling the write protection stuff just to install a new app into your HORM environment.

Do you think this would offer an advantage, or would it not add much other than freeing space (by not having any apps) on your CarPCs main drive?

I'll have to enquire on how well it would work if you have swap turned off...

    Thoughts?

    Very nice software.

The whole idea of booting from CF is for the ability to boot without warm up in Winter and to reduced consumption / size and (sometimes) boot time

Now, running this software is a good idea to avoid the size limitation of the CF but it would remove the advantage of cold boot since all your applications will be seating on the ICY Hard drive.

Anyway, i might give this a try in a week. Will post my finding

    Thanks for sharing !!!

I also had that ideia, but i was lazy enough no to try it yet.

I dont know if its just that straight foward, you cant install games in mojo and then play it in your epia car pc...

But its a nice solution, to bad there are no experiences from car pc users...I know we are all lazy
Here in Portugal we have great weather, lots of brunnets, party a lot, drink a lot....
