search for XP USB Booting.
I have a Compaq SFF I bought from Ebay. It had no DVD drive included (which is a slimline drive) The computer has the ability to boot from USB. I have an external DVD drive and some flash drives. How can I get XP onto this computer w/o purchasing a slimline drive? I tried copying the boot.ini, ntldr, and ndetect files to the flash and then copying xp to it, but I cannot get anything to happen. Any suggestions?
Well, let see.
You put the OS CD into the external (USB) DVD drive you have.
Plug it into the PC USB port.
Turn on the PC and chang the BIOS to boot from USB.
Save and exit the BIOS and watch to see if it boot from the external DVD ROM.
Well, you may have to look at the boot screen. Sometime the message pop up and said something like this "press any key to boot from CD ROM ..... ".
If that doesn't do it.
May be open that PC case out and see what the hell in there. Maybe you can attach a IDE CD/DVD ROM to the mobo and boot it up that way.
