Browse by File or by ID3?

What do you prefer when it comes to finding songs using a front end?

    1. TO BROWSE BY FILE

    Code:
    [-] C:
     | [-] C:\Music
     | | [-] C:\Music\Albums
     | | | [+] C:\Music\Albums\Wacko Jacko
    [-] D:
     | [-] D:\Videos
     | | [+] D:\Videos\Funny
     | | [+] D:\Videos\Movies

    2. TO BROWSE BY ID3 / METADATA (eg. Media Library / iTunes)

    Code:
    [-] Artist
     | [+] Artist\Wacko Jacko
    [+] Albums
    [+] Genre
    [-] Videos
     | [+] Videos\Funny
     | [+] Videos\Movies
    3. I WOULD WANT BOTH, AND REALY WOULD USE BOTH

    Code:
              +----------------+ +--------------------+
              | Browse by File | | Browse by Metadata |
              +----------------+ +--------------------+
Any comments/views would be much appreciated

I prefer option 1, but option 2 is useful sometimes. So I'd say option 3?

on ebay, if an auction has 0 bids, no one reads it, if it has a lot, people get interested. same with this stuff!

so far I have 7 views, which is better than 0 for sure, but I would like to see something like 20-30 to be honest so the statstic will be valid. So if you're viewing this thread and haven't voted yet, wtf u waiting for?!

@tj - just you wait... got some things not yet heard of in the plan (that may be bad thing, but it still feels good saying that!). There's 3 of us developing this too, my two bro's and I (yes all programmers).

and if your bike was in the UK, I would have considered it.

hardy bump for an interesting tread, I also am curious to see more responses to this question. I have *almost* all (around 95%) of my music organized in appropriate file structure, but i usually find myself using ID3 tags to select my music. I do however switch to file browsing to find songs that just are not showing up due to incomplete tags, ect.

I really like the way that CF handles music selection and it is the primary reason why i use it.

Normally I keep my files in sorted folders by artist/album. I would like to see both methods available, but it would be good if you could set a "default" search method and have a toggle button (tucked away in a corner or something) to switch between file view and metadata views. Kind of like the sorting that Amarok does. I'll be following this thread as I am interested to see the consensus.

I tend to use both, because not all of my .mp3s have proper tags or every once in awhile I want to hear a file that's outside my normal music folders (maybe something on a CD or something?). But they all have filenames that I can figure out. So if I had to pick one, I'd pick files-- but I'm greedy, I want both
