Looks good so far. Can you do a bit more like pressing the knob and turning it?

thats it, if I move the knob or press the knob in either the test or the main program I get no feedback. If I change the pulse and brightness it shows the program outputting the commands to the powermate, but no response from the powermate

Hmm.. seems to be something with the init of the device.
Could you try this one?

well the first time I ran the program the light on the powermate went to full brightness. But still no control

This is more than strange. Your device cannot be found for any reason.

Please have a look into your Device-Manager -> Human Interface Devices.
How many are there and which one is the PowerMate (it's in the Properties dialog).

What OS do you have?

Windows XP SP2

under device manager the only thing that is listed for HID is my mouse

the powermate is actually under USB devices

if I uninstall the powermate drivers it will install as a HID but it still doesnt work with your software

This may explain the strange behaviour.
Griffin itself recommends to enumrate the HID. So unfortunately no solution for that yet.
