Frodo...
I'd wait a bit though... when you get the next version, post a notice in the main software secgion (took me a while to notice this post here!), and then when you get more questions/ppl you can ask for your own forum...
just my suggestion
Yeah I know... Do you know who I have to ask for a subforum?Originally Posted by RoyN

Any ideas for putting a PC in this? :)
Garo,
I like it! My thoughts: It seems like the menu buttons are a bit hard to push, or they're a bit slow. i push it and nothing happens, I wait, I push again and it goes right away. Did I miss the first push? Or was it just thinking about it that whole time? this happened over and over so im not sure if something can be done to make the buttons a bit more 'positive'.
I wish there was media controls because I usually just leave my screen on nav, its nice to have volume and track controls there.
I had to change things around to get my gps on com3. I couldnt find anything files or anywhere I could set it to my standard, higher port. I use Xport so I have gps ports on 4 through 8, for the sole purpose of testing apps like this.
The speed is incredibly off on my setup. It works perfectly on mapmonkey, freedrive, and with the gps speedo proggys but on GN it shows erratic numbers, I was going 4560mph at one point today.
thats all the gripes Ive got. I like the simple interface, and the address input is much nicer, although lacking the 'show, navigate, save' options.
thanks!
Ok had a few days to try this, good pints first.......
The thing works fine for me not one crash or hiccup (ukmap)
Now the annoying....
Some 'dialogs' are the original destinator sdk dialogs and they are too small to work with on a small touchscreen (ie gps setup)
'trying to reconnect gps' stays on screen making it a pain to test indoors!
I live in 'york' but the search throws up a whole long list because of the search hitting the text in brackets after the actual text, IE
Acomb(North Yorkshire)
Tollerton(York)
YORK(North Yorkshire)
Either it needs to stop 'hitting' the bracketed text, or, sort the list so its weighted with the more probable hit at the top, tricky but not that hard.
Now the BAD............
My home address is missing! My local streets are missing!
Its not your fault its the sdk I think, it happens when you search city, street, number but they appear (on other software IIRC) if you search street, city.
Its really hard to impress friends when you cant even get it to show you the way home....
Other than that 5 stars for a damn good beta.
I have not yet had the time to try it in frodo, hope it embeds well, or at least gets a launcher.(please please not the mapmonkey launcher - my touchscreen wont work where the 'hide' button is placed!)
In summary, youve done damn good and I like it.
This happens because your pc may be to slow to load skins in real time (it's normalI like it! My thoughts: It seems like the menu buttons are a bit hard to push, or they're a bit slow. i push it and nothing happens, I wait, I push again and it goes right away. Did I miss the first push? Or was it just thinking about it that whole time? this happened over and over so im not sure if something can be done to make the buttons a bit more 'positive'.). Try to select "load whole skin at the beginning" in the option screen. The first loading may be slower but the program should be much faster.
I won't put media control because GN should be embedded in frontends like RoadRunner that are able to do such a thing.I wish there was media controls because I usually just leave my screen on nav, its nice to have volume and track controls there.
I use Destinator dialog for this, so wait untile PN will work to see if this is fixed.I had to change things around to get my gps on com3. I couldnt find anything files or anywhere I could set it to my standard, higher port. I use Xport so I have gps ports on 4 through 8, for the sole purpose of testing apps like this.
Very strange since I use what I find in NMEA/Sirf data..! I don't calc speed, it is just given by the GPS.The speed is incredibly off on my setup. It works perfectly on mapmonkey, freedrive, and with the gps speedo proggys but on GN it shows erratic numbers, I was going 4560mph at one point today.
They'll comethats all the gripes Ive got. I like the simple interface, and the address input is much nicer, although lacking the 'show, navigate, save' options.![]()
Yeah I know, I probably change them in the future. Some 'dialogs' are the original destinator sdk dialogs and they are too small to work with on a small touchscreen (ie gps setup)
I'll make this an option.'trying to reconnect gps' stays on screen making it a pain to test indoors!
I also noticed this. I'll implement the second method.I live in 'york' but the search throws up a whole long list because of the search hitting the text in brackets after the actual text, IE
Acomb(North Yorkshire)
Tollerton(York)
YORK(North Yorkshire)

VERY strange... This didn't ever happen! Has someone the same problem? My home address is missing! My local streets are missing!

Come on garo, what do you have in store for us? any news on the PN stuff? did you get any far with it? (did you see my post in the PN SDK thread?)
Do you see any advantages for us? I still dont see streetnames in the 3d view, which would be cool...do you think it could be added (I think ninja monkey experimented and was able to get some names on birdseye view, but birdseye in D3 looked so crappy)

top man.I also noticed this. I'll implement the second method.
I did it that way once for a search in a video tape library to part match film titles and customer names, took about 3 days to do in the end, day one I had it working but it took about 15 mins to search, by day three it was using indexs and down to 20 seconds to do about 5000 records.
May not sound impressive but that was on an amiga 500 on dual floppys in basic.
