Released: WeatherMan v0.2

I just updated WeatherMan to include many of the suggestions from mp3car.com users. I think you will find this version a little more useful, friendly and pretty.

Requirements:
Internet connection (either to download data to be cached, or live)
MapMonkey
Microsoft .NET v1.1 or newer

New Features:

Skin support - while basic, lets you add some custom graphics and colors.

Threading on the xml data download. Now if the program can't get xml data because of a lousy cell phone internet connection, the program will not lock up and you can still navigate and close it.

Support for any resolution - While optimized for 800x600, it works on any resolution. 1024x768 shows all 5 days of the forecast, 800x600 shows 4 days, and 640x480 has a few things cut off, but is very useable.

Extended Forecast support.

Cache the xml data from weather.com, and if the internet connection isn't found, or if you chose to not have the internet "engaged", it will use this cached data. Also, it will look at the current date, and give you the weather for the next 5 days, regardless of where in the 10 day forecast you are. For instance, if you download weather on a sunday, and don't have internet access, and open WeatherMan on wednesday, it will give you the current conditions from sunday, but will give you the extended forecast from wednesday to sunday.

A "control panel" with some status icons at the bottom. They let you know if MapMonkey is connected and if the internet connection is found.

To do:
While the data fetch is threaded, it doesn't time out and get killed. i want to do this.
Support other mapping software, Freedrive, iGuidance, etc.
Anything you suggest!

Please let me know if you try WeatherMan and if you like it or not. If i see people like it or want changes, i will be more motivated to work on them. Let me know of any problems you find so i can fix them. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Most of the changes I made for this version were user-suggested.

Well a few things:

First: I have this damn cloud that doesn't go away when I close the App (is freaking my out

) see pic.

second: I can't see to find the user input to generate the forecast (like my Zip code, state etc)

Third:The internet status icon doesn't detect anything.

should be easy to integrate to FD as you can get FD to output long a lat coords to other apps.

First: um, you have it minimized. You click on the cloud to bring it back. Press the close button to close it. Sorry you are scared

Second: I intended it to be used w/ a GPS program, but thats a great idea to let you search for a location.

Third: the internet status goes active when it makes a connection, sounds like yours isn't connecting cause you don't have MM running. It goes like this: Mapmonkey check, location change check, weather download.

it uses your zip code, as that is one output from MM. I could also use the city to search for the weather in that city. It never touches lat/long.

I intended on this to be used with a GPS location and WeatherMan to download weather for the current area. I started adding support for cached weather. Would you find it more useful to have a live connection, or download the weather before you go somewhere? It will help my the direction i take this.

Can we change the cloud to going to taskbar when minimizing? (or at least let you move the cloud around)

i could, but it wouldn't be very touch screen friendly. i modeled it after the phone control and frodo minimize icons. if you look at the xml file w/ the settings, you can see how to move it anywhere on the screen.
