Well Centrafuse has phone control built-in but it's not doable as a standalone program ie. you must use Centrafuse. Works flawlessly with my windows mobile phone. The only problem is the echo, which for now the only reasonable method is to use a hardware based solutions like an echo canceling sound card. I've read that Centrafuse is patiently awaiting a software patch from Bluesoleil (the developers of the bluetooth stack imbedded in their program) and that should take care of the problem.

Just a little thought for your expectations tho (as you are not the first person to raise this type of viewpoint).... car manufacturers dedicate time, effort and lots of $$$ to solve this problem therefore it cannot be compare to a hobby industry such as the car pc. Let's face it, there's not a whole lot a people who would find a need to control their cell phone from their PC as PCs are usually used in environments where just using the phone directly is more convenient.

If you wanted to get your head dirty and dive into the Linux world there is a standalone app called nohands that works okay. It even does echo and noise cancellation which is handy.

As soon as I get my n900, I'll be working on an updated HFP app for LinuxICE.

for example if i am listening to musinc from some other application like winamp or WMP, could it mute its volume and show a popup ? u think its possible ?

secondly ... i dont entirely agree with u, i have seen great things done by hobbyists, i just believe the real developer who is going to write this piece of code just has not been bothered to do so :P

If you research Centrafuse and have a look at the demo videos (check youtube, fluxmedia site) you may see what you're looking for. Sorry you need to research it on your own. Not sure why you'd use that feature as you suggested tho as Centrafuse is designed to be a front end, so if you're just want to get at that feature why not just use the whole thing?

Not saying that hobbyist can't do great things as I've seen many on this forum, but your expectations are demanding something that is more complicated than you think. It therefore takes time, effort and $$$ to solve. While there are various developers etc working on a solution it's not here yet so just have patience my friend.

I too am waiting patiently for something to go with RR.
Starting January 1st it will be illegal to use a phone while driving, unless it's hands free, in my province (like some states already have). It would be a pain to pull over to make/receive a call just because no one has bothered to make software yet. Seems like it would be a significant piece of software compared to other programs/plugins that people have already made.

i guess we will have to head back to the old bluetooth headset

Software is developed based on a perceived need balanced against the amount of work required to produce it. I do have bluetooth software in development which will be making its way into openMobile but it has been and will remain a side project. The reason is not because I have "not been bothered to do so" but because your talking about hundreds of hours of development for at best $100 in donations. Most carPC plugins are hacks to get someone elses software to work in a front end and really aren't very large or difficult projects. I think many of you have a very unrealistic view of whats required.

You do have a good point though, there really isn't enough interest in bluetooth based phone control to make anyone come out with anything that really works. Bluesoilel(sp) is about the only windows solution, and Linux bluetooth really doesn't have enough people interested in it to make it really get active development except by the embedded devices crowd. I gave up and got a phone that I could write an app to control it directly through bluetooth rather than through the software stack.
