I've created a skin based upon one of the supplied skins and I'm having a couple of strange problems:

    1. I can't dis-able some of the controls. For example, I only have one phone book so I don't need all the phonebook controls but even if I uncheck them and then save the skin, they're still active. Also, I set the alignment of the text on the phonebook to be middle-left but it shows up centered in the app. Why don't these settings stick?

    2. Is it possible to have controls on top of each other? I'd like to have the "PBrefresh" button on top of the upper right corner of the phonebook or the "exit" button on top of the signal strength icon. Since there's a Z-order in the editor I assumed I could do this.

    3. How does the battery strength control change? That is, what properties govern how it appears with varying strengths?

    1. You can do that, but in "Modern" skin it won't show any changes because the buttons are integrated in the background picture. Unchecking the controls in the designer is only valid through design time. If you want anything hidden, set the Vaisible property.
Alignment for the phonebook is a bug. Will be corrected.

    2. Yes it is. But the Z-Order property knows only 0 (in the background) and 1 (in the foreground).

    3. No properties, it's hardcoded. Read the manual.

I'm laying out a skin with some minimal features: I don't use SMS, have only one phonebook, use only three phone numbers (work, home, cell) imported from OE. I have a problem with performance where Phoco takes about 8-10 seconds to popup over Frodo when activated and it's because my cpu is pegging out at 100% occasionally. While the main culprits are DSP and SAPI, I'm trying to slim down whatever apps I can.

Visual designer apparently automatically throws in all the phone books, phone numbers, etc. at design time. Do these unused controls/panels take ANY processing time if visible=off? Otherwise, can I just delete them from the xml code in the production version after I design them.

No, the phonebooks don't use any CPU time if they're invisible.
You shouldn't remove them from the XML, cause some information is needed though and it would raise errors during load.

I also have the M10000 and I now that this one is a bit sluggish when it's about to draw such complex things (the graphics chip has no accelerator). But 8 seconds is far to much.

Please, take a look into your logfile whether you may have some bad references there.
