Tried to post this, but for some reason the post didn't happen...

The point is that while using a CarPC you use a hidden mic & your car stereo as a whole-car speakerphone. No need to have a BT Headset on & working at the same time.

I see now that in 1.4 (RC2) that there is an option to disconnect PhoCo from the phone so that another device (a BT headset for example) can connect to the phone (SWEET!). I have a couple quick questions about this feature:

    1) It says that it looks for it to recoonect. What does it do, disconnect and sleep for a bit to give qa chance for another device to connect?

    2) Can you do this at any time during a call, or are there restrictions? IOW, I see a call come in, see on the caller ID that I want to have this private so can I then disconnect and take the conversation private via my BT headset and then answer the phone w/ the BT headset? Or must there be no calls going on at the time? Can I do this in the middle of a call? Say I am talking to someone and he wants to say something bad about the passenger in my car :-) Can I then, in the middle of the call disconnect and then pickup via a BT Headset?

    3) When released, what will be the charge for PhoCo?

    1) Correct.
    2) You can disconnect whenever you want, cause only the Serial connection will disconnect.
    3) Soon. Click the "Buy now" button and you'll see.

When you say on the Serial connection will disconnect, what exactly do you mean by that? I am going to be using a BT USB dongle, not a serial device. Or do you mean something like there is a "serial" connection going on via the BT device? IOW, the data transferring over the BT USB dongle is coming in serially (vs parallel), so the data is disconnected, regardless of the physical connection type?

IOW, in typical network-speak, when you say serial, are you referring to what I would call the physical layer (hardware) or a transport layer (software)

Oh, and by clicking on Buy Now I suppose that you mean within the software, right? I did not see a buy now link on the website. I'll have to do that later as I have my phone & PC, but am still waiting for my dongle to arrive in the mail (in a few days).

It works like this, the bluetooth offers a SPP (Serial Port Profile), which basically emulates a COM port from the PC to the phone, through bluetooth (yeah, in your-speak its the transport layer! )

When a call comes in it disconnects that, and the bt headset is connected. When the headset disconnects phoco regains serial port connection...

I think thats about right, hope it helps ya!

Yes, thanks. That explains it nicely.

Where's the best place to read about the bt protocols, profiles, etc explained in plain english (for noobs)? I come from a networking background so I can read an rfc, but i'd rather not unless i have insomnia. :-) Something visuAL along the lines of zorros stack explanation?
