    Text Imput..Multi-Tap

    Hey Zorro,

    got another one for ya

i was thinking is it possible to have a text imput mode so as to use the phones keypad as a wireless keyboard with support for all characters on a standard keyboard, using Multi-tap.

This could be done if one key is assigned to activate the text imput mode, then while in this special mode all your keys are remapped (temp) to be keyboard keys with multi-tap just like they are on the cell phone, so the number 2 key would have 4 taps and send these keys A,B,C,2
And also if there was a onscreen visual to show you which character you currently have selected (just like on SE phones) but on the computer screen, and can also be set to allways be visible even when PC is minimized. Like a pop up fad in when activated, fade away when your done typeing.
When your done in this mode just push the activate key again and your back to your frodoplayerkeymap or whatever.

    This would be awesome!!!!
And if you allready send a few sms messages a day you should be pretty fast with multi-tap (i know i am)

This would be the perfect in car text imput device, basicly turns your phone into a wireless thumb board.

More thinking of how it could be implemented, i think all phonecontrol would need to do is listen for multiple button presses and know what to do when it recieves multiple keypresses of the same key in a set time interval. 5 keypresses is the maximum needed to get full alpha numeric support.

    any other ideas?

No one has the latest version but me

Here's a screenshot of what the KeyMap file looks like.
As you see, you can build your own assignment by separating the chars by a "|" (pipe sign). There is no limitation how much chars you assign to one key so you can probably map the keypad of your actual phone very easy.

sweet, thats exactly what i was talking about.
Now to move on to my next feature request, or more of a solution to a problem.

Currently bluetooth only supports being connected to one device at a time, so if you have PhoneControl (or any other app) connect to your phone , you cant connect multiple devices, like your buetooth headset for example.

Now i have completely fell in love with my bluetooth headset and cant bare the thought of placeing my phone up to my head anymore. It even feels weird now. This, and this reason alone is why i dont use PhoneControl, FMA or any other remote control apps for my phone in my car. I must have my headset while im driveing, its way safer and a lot more free. Anyway, If PhoneControl could support the proximity feature of bluetooth and also manual and automatic connect disconnect to serial port i think we can work around this limitation.

So, when an incomeing phone call is recognized by PhoneControl and I accept, it would be nice if Phonecontrol would disconnect from the phones serial port while the phone call is active, that way i can just tap the button on my headset and it will connect to the phone. After PhoneControl disconnects from the phone it should wait 15 sec and then try to reconnect (quietly in the background) to the phone and keep trying until its able to connect. So once im done talking, my headset automaticly disconnects from the phone and now PhoneControl is able to reconnect on the next attempt.

Now dont go and tell me your version does this all ready too?

when and how much is the next version going to be anyway?

    Thanks

You know, this is (from my POV) the most sensless feature ever.
I know what you're talking about and I do understand the problem but having this feature PhoneControl would become PhoneUncontrol and it makes it a kind of "useless".

However, I've integrated a new function where you can doubleclick the Signal strength bar(s) and consequently disconnect PhoCo's serial connection. The Signal bar starts to flash and after every 10 seconds PhoCo tries to reconnect.
    This is it.
There'll be no automatic disconnect after accepting a call - in this case I'd recommend not to use PhoCo at all.

I'll take the last reply with a grain of salt, so please dont take my words as being harsh.

Im sorry you feel its a useless feature or makes phone control uncontrol. But... the primary function of a phone is still to be a phone, no matter what extra stuff you add on, cameras, mp3 players etc, if it gets in the way of the phone being a phone thats not good. Especially while your driveing. The main reason i got the headset is to use while in the car because i do talk a lot and i want to be just a little bit safer with both hands free. I assume you dont use a bluetooth headset.
I feel the automatic connect/disconnect makes PhoCo much more usefull, its there when you need it, and gone when you dont. And in my honest opinion, adds more polish and gracefullness to the feature. Double Clicking the signal meter dosent make it any easier than just clicking the Exit button and restart PHoCo when im done which gets old very quickly, and is a lot safer if it did it automaticly (just like pauseing winamp or FP when on call), hince the request.

Again, im sorry you dont feel the same way, but im sure anyone else with a headset will understand and agree with what im talking about.

Zorro, I think it is time you start charging money for your software.
About the price of a bluetooth headset would be right.
