Did I break my M2 ATX?
So I bought my m2 from this site 6 months ago and never tried using it until today (ive been using the carpc inside the house for something else). However, one day, 5 or so months ago when i was moving stuff around in my room, I accidentally stepped on the m2 (not hard). The fat round cylinders bent slightly to the side as well as the fuse.
The fuse didn't blow, and no connections look to be broken. Theres a good chance that i didnt damage it at all when i stepped on it. But it wont provide power to the mobo.
It boots flawlessly inside with a standard power supply. But with the m2, its like its dead. I have the red wire connected to the positive battery terminal thru 30 amp fuse (should i get lower amp'd fuses?). i have the ground to ground, and the white wire is hooked up to the ignition, which registers 0v unless the key is in cranking position then it registers 12v. When i crank it, the fans dont spin, nothing happens. I dont have anything plugged in when im doing this like a kb or monitor but im pretty sure that isnt necessary just to test to see if the power is reaching the mobo.
Is there a way to test for sure if the m2 is shot? Like multimeter testing a certain connection on the power cord?

what happens when you manually short the power button header? Will it turn on then?
And to test yes you can. Easiest place to test everything is the ATX connector because it has all the voltages in 1 spot.
COM obviously is ground.
is that different than this procedure (which i tried, no success)?:
-m2atx switch port connected to mobo switch input
-all 3 power wires connected and tested working
-turn on engine - realize nothing happend
-disconnect switch wire from mobo and plug in my old manual switch cord+button which ive been using indoors forever
-press button-nothing, hold button-nothing, pray to tom cruise to perform a miracle-nothing
im thinking this is the same thing as what you suggested, because that switch button has always done the trick indoors.
any other ideas?
Remove the jumper for testing purposes. Give it power and probe both ends of the fuse to be sure power's going through, then probe the ATX connector.
OK. I will state the obvious, but sometimes the obvious is what we forget about. Your computer and Power Supply are in a metal box. Did you put a spacer or isolator between the box and the underside of the power supply?
I think Scouse ( not sure if it was him , I know someone did ) put that pink stuff under his mobo and it fried it ( turned out the pink stuff was conductive ) - just giving you a warning.

Heh, i was guunna say the same about the metal box. The "fat round cylinders" are capacitors if they are slightly bent but not broken off the board it should be allright. The metal box may also be a problem (metal being a conductor and all, with your hardware on top of it)
Wow, I don't see any type of spacer. Testing should be done on non-conductive surfaces, or without the bottom of the circuit boards contacting a conductive meterial.
i guess you guys didnt catch that i had it hooked up to the wrong ignition wire. the one i had it hooked to registered 12 during cranking only. what the PS needs is the ignition that stays at 12 when the key is in the on position. when i switched the wires, the **** booted up right away. so, that problem is solved.
as for the pink stuff, i did run into one situation with it... when i screwed the MB tight to the case (and it pressed firmly against the pink stuff), it would no longer boot. as soon as i loosened the screws and there was no pressure on the pink stuff, it booted fine. im thinking the pink stuff was conducting some electricity to where it shouldnt go, stopping the mb from starting for some reason. luckily nothing was destroyed or burned. runs fine now, no prob.
and for the PS, i do have spacers. the red/blue/yellow plastic connectors that you use for car wires... i chopped off the plastic ends of a yellow one and used it as a kind of spacer. i put the screws thru that and it gives it a 1/2 inch space below.
