    making sata power adapter

I need to make a power adapter for a SATA hard drive. I cut the SATA end I need off a dead powersupply but my question is the 3.3v lines. a 4pin adapter doesnt supply that 3.3v line, so would it be okay to just leave those wires alone and connect the 12v, 5v and G lines?

I did that once, and it worked... It is still running with no issues. I'd say go for it.

SATA only uses +12v, +5v and two grounds, just like IDE, its just that it has a different connector.
