    inverter input power?

I have my carPC currently hooked up via an inverter and have a power controller coming to do the PC turn on/off. I chose to go this way because the DC-DC PSUs I've tried aren't up to the task of running a full blown Athlon 3000 CPU.

My issue is that if my car isn't running then the power inverter only gets 12 volts or a little under (like 11.8) and it starts beeping. I'll run like that for hours as I found out by accident one time, but I don't like the situation.

I'd like to be able to leave the PC running while the car isn't, but that beeping is annoying. I thought about just finding and disabling the actual beeper, but is there some way to stabalize the incoming voltage?

I don't know just how low I can get on the incoming side though with this inverter. Anyone out there know of an inverter made to work with as low as 8 volts maybe? I would bet that that's too low to start my car with, but just as an example...

I know its a bit off topic, but are you getting any noise or other weird problems from the inverter. I finally have all the parts for my CarPC and am ready to install. Just wanna know what mishaps ill run into after all is done.

BTW, I think if you run the inverter for too long with the car off, it'll drain the battery, giving you problems when its time to start the car.

I had some noise in the audio signal at first but a ground loop filter fixed that right up. I haven't had anything specific happen that was caused by the inverter.

Yeah, if you run it too long then you can't start the car, but my inverter wants 13.5 volts or it starts beeping. It'll beep as soon as I shut the car off sometimes. It's a low power warning, but it's factory say way to high for my purposes.
