    Power up by car alarm?

Ok, so I got myself a nice little black box from teh one and only Webmaster dude. Great product, very happy with it. Finally got it installed (laptop issue) this weekend and I came across a small issue.

So, I tapped a power wire, ran it all to the trunk, wired it all up, no problem. I think my el-cheapo car-laptop PSU kinda sucks as I get alot of noise when it runs on car battery, but no issues when the car is running. Anyhow, i tested it a couple of times, played with the shutdown software, all good.

Then I packed up and watched it shutdown to come inside for dinner, closed the trunk (leaving everything open ready for final testing) and then hit the remote locking on my keyfob. Turns out, I get a power signal when I lock my doors! So the laptop starts up. My question is (maybe for the subaru guys more?) is there anyway I can have it power up when I UNlock the doors, but not when i LOCK them? Its not a huge issue, as I usually lock the doors fairly soon after stopping the car, but I wonder what it will do to the laptop after a while in teh trunk?

    Car - 02 WRX Wagon
    Laptop - old compaq
PSU - cheap DC - Laptop converter
power up - webmasters black box
power down - Shutdown controller downloaded from here and set to 60seconds.

Where did you tap into? Sounds like you already are tapped into the door locks. Might want to find another wire to connect to. Problem with using the locks is most cars now lock when you put the car in gear and unlocks when the car is in park. You would turn on the pc when you unlock to get in, as soon as you go to drive off car locks doors and shuts off pc. Then put it in park, turns it back on, and so forth.

Car locks are no issue, they do not lock when hitting the clutch/sticking it in first/whatever. I dont recall what wire I tapped, but I just found a wire that switched with the ignition. Also, I have to test this, I think if I turn the sidelights off then it shouldnt do this.

When I lock/unlock the car, the sidelights flash, my shiftlights blink, and the final shift beeper beeps. I have always liked it like this, but discovered they dont do it if I leave the sidelights off. Since the sidelights shutoff when the key is out it has never been an issue. Its just kinda weird.
