    Keypower?

Anyone running a Keypower 250W supply?

I'm thinking about one to ditch the inverter. I know the dsatx is a nice piece of kit, but I've got a new DSSC from dashwerks just gathering dust on the shelf right now, so I'm thinking a plain DC-dc power supply might be just fine for me and my P4 2.26. If nothing else, I can dump the inverter and it's induced static . I see from seaching that it's been around for a while.

    So, i've got a couple Q's:

    1. price. not listed on the keypower web site. Anyone buy one recently?
    2. reliability. Is it? I've searched and saw a few threads where people have sid they run for years without a glitch.
    3. Any additional comments welcome!

I've sent an email to the manufacturer, we'll see what comes of that. They may not sell to an individual if I interpret the web site correctly.

    Cheers

    **EDIT*****
Just found a few online reatailers. OUCH! It's almost as bloddy much as a dsatx! Looks like I'm back to saving my buttons for a dsatx! Oh well.

    Hi greatwhite,

First post though I've been around a while. I got the Keypower about 2 1/2 years ago. The price I paid at Orbit Micro then was similar to now; ~$200. It's been rock-solid despite my numerous attempts to short, burn-up, overload and generally mistreat it.

Although the stock fan moves alot of air, it was way too loud for my setup (Scion xB). I ended-up with a quiet 3-wire alternative connected to the motherboard for speedfan control. While I was voiding the warranty, I added a temp sensor to the unit's larger heatsink. I still haven't gotten around to connecting the sensor externally. My suspicion is that it operates somewhere in the 'meteorite' temperature range...

This supply is currently powering an ASUS P5B Premium, E6600 proc, 2GB RAM, EVGA 7600, X-Fi Elite, EVDO Card / Adapter, 2 500GB Drives, Several USB peripherals, 5 Fans and a rear-view camera. It's been the one and only supply I've owned since starting the project.

As anyone who reads probably surmises, I've been looking for additional power margin lately. The powerstream units are where I'm currently concentrating. Their website has tons of info on DC power & Batteries; http://www.powerstream.com/

    Good luck with your selection,

    Donn

    Thanks!
It seems most of the references I can find about the keypower units is they seem to go on for many years with no problems.

I checked the material sheet for my current carputer and it comes in at 210W!!!
And that's without USB device draws!!

I'm leaning more towards a dedicated dc-dc power supply (around 250-300w)instead of the dsatx, as the dsatx is "only" rated at 220w. I've got a startup shutdown controller just gathering dust on the shelf (DSSC bought new, never used), so a "dumb" power supply is not a big issue. The DSSC will also integrate better into my system (I think) with regards to the way I want it to operate.

Ooopps......looked at the wrong model, mine is 115 w max. http://www.dell.com/downloads/global...i_GX270SFF.pdf
Seems the DSATX might be back in the hunt!
Or I could go for a 150W supply and the DSSC................
Or I could go with a pure sine wave inverter as my sound system won't let me run for very long with the car off anyways........

hmmmmm.....what to do, what to do?

Something about that 115W that seems kinda low though, Dell optiplex GX270, P4 2.26 Ghz, 320 G drive, etc (CD and floppy drives removed though). 115W just seems too low of a rating to me.............

    Ideas anyone?
