    CNX p1900 question

So I've spent too much time on this forum, searching and rarely posting. There is one power supply question that has been haunting me. (literally my roomate said I was yelling about switched 12v somthing last nite)

My cig lighter is on an acc circuit, can I just tap into it for the 12v acc line?

Would that effect the functionality of my cig lighter?

I beleive the answers are yes, no. but I would love to hear of someone else who did this with success. From my understanding, or at least reading, the power supply does not draw much at all from the 12v switched line it just uses it for an on/off signal.

All of my stuff comes in tomarrow, I plan to put a full write up soon wth pics after it's done. Thanks a ton guys

    my project:

mac mini (non-inte)-going in the glove box (it's too easy not to)
cnx p1900 v2.2- going under driver seat (depending on clearance)
lil 629- in the dash with bracket, I've seen pics and it looks oem.
    subaru mounting bracket for screen

also i'm contemplating quitting my job so i can do it tomarrow, is this a good idea?

Yes, quit your job, it's a great idea. Stop being a slave to the man.

You're better off not tapping into anything to wire up your power supply, they draw too many amperes. You need to wire up your power supply as you would a car audio amplifier.

even the switched 12v? I've heard of many people hooking it up to the one that runs to their head unit and its a stock headunit with a built in amp...I would still run a main from the bat to the supply.

Yes, that's perfectly fine, and it won't affect the functionality of your cigarete lighter at all.
The ACC line on teh intelligent PSUs is just used for sense. When it senses 12v, it signals the computer to turn on. When it senses 0v (or lower than the threshhold), it signals the computer to turn off.

I haven't atually done it. I used an ignition controlled line in my car stereo harness.
    It works.

Only you can answer that, but i'd say that quitting your job is a rather stupid idea.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Can I also use the cig lighter for the switched 12v for my amp as well as the p1900?

    Bump!

I have a similar question/problem on my hands about the p1900 and the ignition line.

I have half of my carPC installed, so far its just the mini, so no screen. The p1900 is hooked up to the battery and grounded properly and is hooked up to my cig lighter which is only on when the car is on, so it counts as ignition.

The problem I have is when I turn on the car, neither the p1900 or the mini start up, no fans no nothing. When I apply power it does give me the firmware version. The weird thing is that it tells me the firmware is 2.9 (2 flashes, 1 flash, then 9 flashes), and I thought the firmware was only up to 2.8.

I tested the ignition line and the continuity is fine, and the 12v line receives 12.5 volts when the key is on acc and 14v when the car is on.

Please don't flame me, I did search! I swear it!
    CarPC status:

    [XXXXXXXXXX] 100% Complete
    [XXXXXXXXXX] 100% Installed
    [XXXXXXXXXX] 100% Software

CarPC v1.2 is now in effect. Software updates and hardware additions to come.

I had similar problems with hooking up to my cig lighter...never really did figure out what problem was. Instead I just used the acc line out of my head unit. well actually I dont have a head unit anymore. I bought a wiring harness at a car audio shop, one with pigtails on one end an female on the other. this plugged into what would go into a head unit, it labels the wires for you. very easy

Dumb question, but have you tried hitting the power button on the mini, and/or if you have a macpac cable have you connected the little power button thing onto the main board?

Yes, i hit the power button and yes, i hooked up the macpac correctly. I'll have to try to wire it to my radio ign line, and if that doesnt work, I would have to say the p1900 is dead.
