    Opus Solutions Supply kicks ***!!!!!

I installed my first ever car computer this weekend and I am really happy with the results.

I decided to go with the Opus solutions power supply after reading the specs and contacting Kris at Opus solutions and talking to him about the unit.

The supply was originally designed for Police Car computer systems, so it does exactly what I wanted and more, it's 92% efficient DC-DC and works from 8v to 18v generating virtually no heat!!!!!!!!!!

I took the unit out of the case it comes with and easily fitted it inside my caselogic mini ITX case next to my Via Eden 800 board just in front of the case fan.

The supply has a built in shutdown controller which you can set to 10secs, 20 mins, 40 mins and 60 mins via jumpers on the board, it also includes a low voltage detection shutdown cicuit sending an ATX pulse to the computer. It's rated to 150W but Kris reckons it could easily do 180W.

I fully recommend this unit to anyone building a system, it's small, extremely well made and the most powerful solution I have seen plus it's super easy to install with only 3 wires to connect - a true plug-and-play solution. It does cost more than most other supplies available at $189, but the quality and features of the unit made it worth every penny to me.

Big thanks to GFoulks for putting me on to this

    Joel

Anyone wanting to contact Kris can get him at this number 1-949-388-7623 - I actually got to meet the guy as he only lives about 30 miles from me - nice guy very helpful.

So as I take it.. this psu will auto start and shutdown your computer?

I'm seriously considering this power supply.. either this one or the PC Power and Cooling one. I don't want to fuss around with the one i'm using right now any longer.

Okay - here (attached) is the only pic I have of the power board inside the case - but it should be good enough for you to see the fit.

Yep, this unit will automatically turn on the computer when you turn the ignition over in the car and it will turn it off after a pre programmed amount of time when you turn the ignition off.

I didn't mention this earlier but it's a biggie - the computer isn't effected by the car being started if it is already on - so if you have your shutdown controller set to 20 mins and come back to the car after 5, obviously the computer is still running - you can start the car and the computer won't even twitch

    www.opussolutions.info is the web site.

this supply looks and sounds mighty nice, if the deal i had with zootjeef falls through (i have not heard back from him for a couple of weeks so i think it will) ill have to get myself one of these

only problem i can see is it might not fit into my plexi case, and if it doesnt ill just build another case i guess, as it only took me about an hour to do

I have to say that I wouldn't have liked to have tried to work out all the extra little bugs trying to find an alternative to this supply, I spoke to Kris yesterday as he helped me hook up my touch screen and controller - he was telling me that the unit was originally commissioned by the Police Force and went through a development period of 8 months of solid trouble shooting to make the unit as tough and reliable as it is.

As you may expect by the cost, the unit is a fully switched supply and not a linear regulated unit.

Geez - I'm going on a bit about this (no I'm not making commission on these ) I just wanted to give back to the forum for all the info and help I've found here to build my system.
