PSU selection

I was browsing and I see the OPUS or the DSATX or the M2 choices for my setup

I will be running
VIA EN15000G
1GB RAM
100GB 5400RPM SATA harddrive
DVD-RW (possibly burning also)
Bluetooth USB
Wifi USB
GPS USB
2 usb ports on the front
expresscard USB adapter
and a 7" touchscreen that dual-din one here on the store
in addition to a USB keyboard and mouse

I was looking at these and not sure on what to get and how I would have power for both the SATA harddrive and dvd burner, unless I use a splitter. I was thinking of dropping in a kill switch if possible where if I was storing the car for a week or more, I can ust flip the switch and turn it off (if possible)

any recommendations?

I would reccomend getting a 2.5" Laptop hard drive, rather than the 3.5" desktops, they are more resillient in design!

It is very easy to wire in a kill switch, when you wire the power supply in, just put a switch on the positive wire. You could if you wanted, get a oem switch from your car makers and hook it up on the dash so it looks OEM, which is what I am planning to do with mine. It does require some extra work, but worth it in the end.

So far, in the NUMEROUS threads on this board, there has not been any data to back this up. I've been running a full size drive for well over 3 years (never run a laptop drive) and I've never once had to replace a drive because of failure.

Hmm so according to the manual of the VIA EPIA EN15000G, it takes 19watts max? doesnt sound right. I did look before at those FAQ's but still am a bit confused here and there about it.

Yup Epia's just dont use much power, which is why us car enthusiats prefer them!

REDGTiVR6 - While it is true, that 3.5" hard disk drives may be as resilient as a 2.5" hard drive, manufacturers claims do back it up, by listing the operational shock measured in G's. 2.5" Usually have a much higher shock tolerances. As long as you do not cross the operational shock boundary's, you'll be fine. Which in your case, your normal day to day driving doesn't cross the operational shock values.
If your running a carpc in a small confined and hot space, power consumption really is an issue, as the more power you put into it, the more heat you get out, and all that heat has to go somewhere!!
