    Opus Power Supply Problem

Hey guys, I have been a long time reader of this board. I recently started my car project in my 2006 VW GLI and have had a few hangups. Right now I ordered a "OPUS 120 watt DC-DC power Supply DCX3.120" I decided to test this on my Intel D201GLY motherboard. I can't seem to get this thing working. I removed everything and can't even get a fan to spin up. I am getting 13.7v on both Yellow wires and on the red wire. On the hard drive molex connector with the power supply light on solid I am only get 5.01v on both the red and yellow wire. I am pretty sure I am supposed to get 12v on the yellow and 5v on the red right?

    Can anyone help?

I finally got someone on the phone from Opus. Hold your power supply in front of you with the long ATX connector nearest to you. Look directly above the ATX connector, you should see two test points. One says 5v and the other says 12v. With the unit on you should see 12v and 5v respectively. I do not. I see 5v on the 5v and under .4 on the 12v. He told me to fill out the RMA form on the website and someone would contact me. I did that early yesterday and have not heard anything yet.

i had a similar problem with a pico 60 wi (wide input range from 6-20v) although specified for 60 watts (which is sufficient for the intel d201gly) the 12v rail only provided 1-2 amps which results in max 24 watts. this is just not enough to power the cpu at boot time (takes about 28 watts peak on the 4 pin connector). had to buy a pico 120 wi which works perfect.

check the specification of your opus psu carefully to see how much amps are provided on each rail

Yeah it works fine. I opened a ticket with mp3car store where I bought it and have not heard anything. Also Opus support not responding. I was able to leave a voicemail on Thursday but nobody has contacted me back.

Grrr second time Im writing this! Computer crashed!

Dude relax! RMA's take time!!Atleast Opus have admitted to their fault!

To keep a long story short, I recently bought a $1000 acer laptop and a $140 three year warranty and accidental damage cover through Acer.

After 2-3 times of using the Laptop, a key on the keyboard fell off. I arranged for the laptop to be fixed which Acer sent out a courier to pick the laptop up.

After a week of nothing, I called Acer and the Acer Rep asked if I wanted to pay for the repairs, for which I said no, because I have the additional cover and besides, it is still covered by the 1 year standard warranty!
The rep said this does not cover cracked screens.....I demanded to know why Acer did not inform me of this before...like when they received it?? Face it, if I sent you a laptop with a broken key, and it arrived with a cracked screen, would you not inform me ASAP?
Acer were so adamant that the the laptop was damaged in my care and not in transport or in acers care. I asked to see pictures of the packaging to prove this was the case for which the rep guranteed the packaging was not damaged.
A day later, I received two pictures of the Laptop....but no packaging?! I called Acer which another Rep told me, all packaging gets destroyed...amazing how they can say the packaging is not damaged...when there is no packaging!
Acer also wanted £170 to repair the screen, when in the terms and conditions, it states I should pay only £80 for a damaged screen! When I asked about this, Acer replied saying I didn't complete registration for the additional warranty
Then why was I asked for the warranty code and password when I placed my first call??

After speaking with an Acer manager, He openly told me to take it up with a lawyer....
After talking to a lawyer, the lawyer basically told me, his fees would cost more than the repair itself, but was willing to go through with it anyway. That's stupid UK laws for you....we are only able to claim 75% of legal fees should we win the case! The lawyer would most likely charge atleast £1000! That would mean, I would have to pay the Lawyer £250!! It's no wonder why the acer manager was so quick to suggest i should sue!

So now I am stuck with an expensive laptop with a broken screen! Luckily enough for me, I am qite handy with a few screwdrives, a few wires and some other bits

Don't worry mate, Opus have atleast admitted to the fault...unlike Acer!

I had the RMA sent off about a month ago. I had not heard anything so I sent them an e-mail checking to see what the status was. They shipped it the next day and it works perfect. I have my 8.4 Lilliput a standard desktop hard drive all running on it and it stays on through engine crank! Very nice.
