I was road testing my setup for a couple of days when suddenly my inverter started blowing the cig. lighter fuse. It turns out that the inverter had gone out somehow. I relaced it with the same type that went out and it has been working fine for about 2 weeks.
The only difference between setups is that on the previous inverter is that I grounded the inverter to the same place I had the computer grounded to the truck chassis. So basically the inverter was grounded through the cig. lighter "and" a separate ground connected to the outside of the inverter running to the chassis.
I was just wondering if and why the extra ground would cause the inverter to die like that.
it's called a short circuit. If you basically connect power to ground directly with no devices in between, you'll have a unrestricted loop for all of your power to run though. By rule, energy follows the path of least resistance, so all of your car's electricity was flowing through your cigarette lighter, into your (now shorted) invertor, and popping the fuse.
I guess I wasn't thinking. But it did take out a lot of the noise before it died.
