    Switches

Where does everyone get their 3-way switches? I am thinking of having one switch that does these things

1- Off - Cuts all power to the PC(for when I am not driving the car for a few days)

2- Normal - turns the PC on when the car goes on and gracefully off when the car turns off

3- On - Keeps the PC on even if the car is turned off

I would have to think a number of people do that, but I don't see the three way switch on MP3 car, so where is the next best(ebay didn't seem to have much)

No completly a newbie with that stuff. I just assumed hook up the 12v const to one part of the switch, acc line to the other and leave the third with no power, ground it all and be good to go... am I way off ?

Errr, no, that actually sounds fine.... lol, what do I know. Slight worry is you may find most '3-way switches' are actually just 2-way with another 'not connected' option, but that'd work for you too.

I'll go and bury my head in the sand somewhere now...

Something like this might work, but there seems to be a few too many places on the switch to occupy... Are there 6 - 2 for each function(ground/live)

    Here's what I used:

    Top: On
    Middle: Off
    Bottom: On/Off with Key position

    http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bi...R_SWITCH_.html

S/H is $7.00 per order no matter how much you order.

I also used two SPST round rocker switches. One is for the amp and the other is for the sub. The amp is wired through the SPST switch in the middle from the M2-ATX's remote amp turn-on feature, so it can only be on if the computer is on.

Total amount spent so far: $1196.64

You will probably spend AT LEAST 2x what you initially budget for your CarPC Project!

That is perfect, just what I am looking for - do you have the wiring scheme you used for the three way switch?

Maybe one better... a remote that does it for you :-) If we could clean this up a little, and confirm some older threads we might be able to make a good sticky with this info on it.

Let me know how it works for you. I didn't order because I wasn't sure what would happen to the pc if I used that to turn it on, would I have to remember to turn it off even after I started the car and turned it off.
