definately sounds like a voltage issue. i would DEFFinately look into supplying that precious monitor with a regulated 12V DC-DC supply. Its a much cleaner voltage source and will keep your lcd running strong much longer.
I have simple configuration: I spliced cig-plug and connected auto-laptop adapter and my monitor (Lilliput with auto-plug). Most of the time it works nice. However, when I just turned on the car (and laptop), and also turn on headlight, my monitor goes blank (although the power light on it is green). If I immediately turn it on again, it might turn off again (or might not).
I think it's because after laptop was in standby for while, it needs to charge internal battery, so it draws more power from the line PLUS headlights, so my monitor is underpowered. Am I correct ? How can I solve ? separate DC-DC regulator for the monitor ?

Also make sure you power it through a dedicated power wire from the battery. The cig lighter has small awg wires that aren't designed to handle a lot of current.
Thanks for info. I assume I would need to add fuse too, right ?
Correct.
