    Upgraded battery

I've had some trouble with my car probably due to Biodiesel not getting through to the engine and because I needed alot of cranking to start it, the battery was drained. I took it to VW and they told me that the pump had gone. Anyway to my plea for help...

I don't know if this is VW trying to get extra cash from me but they have reccomended that i get a bigger battery due to my car pc, sub and amp.

According to halfords my golf gt tdi 150 has a 640 amp battery as standard.

There is a carbon battery rated at 680 amps and I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience or reccomendations about if this is big enough.

I have roughly worked out my extra power requirements:

4*50W rms alpine amp - 2 50w speakers and other 2 channels bridged for sub
    200W sub
    160W pc psu

This comes to 560w which is about 46 amps at 12v. Because the powers above are outputs, they will draw more than that. If i estimate 20% loss that equals about 55 amps needed which seems alot to me (but i suppose a large over estimate is better). Have I done this right? Any help would be appreciated.

Well.....a bigger battery will only increase your engine off listening time. It won't make anything perform better while the engine is running. Car batteries really aren't designed for charge/deep discharge/charge/deep discharge cycles, so a larger battery really won't help you in the long run. Just my $0.02

Any half decent deepcycle battery should suit your car + setup fine.

If the current one is still holding charge and working normally, then keep it.
