    Can't decide on power source

I have a Cobra 800 watt invertor and an AOpen case with a 160watt built in PSU that you would normally plug into the wall. Should I plug it into the invertor, or buy a dc-dc psu with a shut down controller? I want to run 5.1 sound through RF amps and MB Quart speakers. THanks

A DC-DC PSU is always the preferred option.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

DC-DC...more straightforward, less hassle with eliminating noise from the system. Especially if the inverter you have is not a true-sine wave inverter.

I ran an inverter just fine for over a year. Yes, they are electrically noisy, but your average ATX power supply should run just fine off an inverter. However, my screen always had this flicker when run from the inverter. I just made the switch to a M2-ATX, and it is great. Very efficient and clean power to the PC, no more flicker. Might as well go DC-DC and get it right the first time, because eventually you will probably want one.

I went with an M2-ATX as well...I am an efficiency freak, and DC-DC is definitely more efficient and less noisy.

No argument on the lower noise produced by the DC-DC.
But what do you think the efficiency difference is?
... enough to require a thicker wire?
... enough to effect fuel economy?

    Inverter

I tried running a PW-200-M 200W DC-DC Mini ITX ATX 12V Power Supply PSU to run my full size mother board, it was either it would work or it wouldnt when trying to power up. when It would work, I would get flickers on my LCD. Was ****ing me off, Tried everything to get rid of the flickers, I coudlnt, I went back to the old power supply with inverter, I have no flickers at all, I think Im gonna stick to my 350 watt inverter and PSU.
