Hmm, I've gotta have something screwy. Maybe this PSU isn't powering enough to the M4, because with the PSU on the Zotac motherboard, powers on just fine, connected to the M4, blinks, but no power.

This is true. If the 12volt rail on the standard PSU does not provide enough amps the m4 won't power up. You should be using a supply with at least 20 amp rail since in theory max output for the M4 is 250 watts. (I = W/E) or (20.83 amps = 250W / 12Volts)

When attempting to power up my M4, by following this guide, when I turn on the desktop PSU the D2 light next to the J6 jumper blinks.

It blinks before I even throw the switch between the desktop PSU and the M4. As soon as the desktop PSU turns on, that light blinks but no power to the carputer. What does this mean? Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
I am having this exact same problem-- I have tried to use a car battery, a 20amp ac-dc converter (outputs 13.8 volts) and used tried using it in the standard psu mode, using a power supply tester. nothing. the light just blinks.

I emailed mp3car sales for a rma this morning-- i wish i had found this topic before buying the m4...opus, here I come.

are you guys trying to manually start the motherboard at all? I've setup 2 units now and have not had problems like this at all.

I tried using a flathead to short the two pins. I HAVEN'T tried it on my desktop PSU (With 52AMPS) and I HAVEN'T tried it off the battery in the car.

I WILL do it off the desktop PSU right now

No change. Same issures. I tried with a screwdriver, and a power button pulled from a machine. I tried with the rocker switch, and I tried two different methods to the M4 (Rocker in the middle and no rocker in the middle).

I'm hoping it's just some random issue I'm overlooking - but I don't know where else to go from here until I have the wiring in the car and can try it "officially".
