    No power to my vga port?

    Hi all,

    I plugged my car pc into my inverter and everything works, but there is nothing displayed on my screen. When i plug my car pc into the mains power, everything works fine.....the screen displays the image from the car pc.

    BTW - i have a 600w inverter...

    Any ideas on what the issue is? Power issue?

    Cheers

    Are you using the same display when you use mains power?

    Need more information.

    What is the display? , a standard desktop monitor?

    How much power does it require?

    Does it use a brick?

    What type of inverter, is it a full sine wave type?

    Can you power the monitor OR the pc off the inverter with the other connected to mains?

    What is the mains voltage in your part of the planet?

    Its an in dash motorized monitor and has a separate power supply. It gets plenty of power. It is not a sine wave inverter, is that a problem? Our mains is 24volts. I only put the mains power onto the psu for the pc to get it to work, the monitor doesn't need it. This is what made me think the psu is not getting the power it needs when powered off the inverter.

    Cheers

    Ok, so you think the monitor is no problem, but the pc is not producing a VGA signal is that correct?

    Also when you speak of mains I automatically think 110 VAC or 220 VAC or 230 VAC.
    You said yours is 24volts - I assume you have a 24 VDC supply connected to the inverter. Is that also correct?

    sorry 240 vac here in Australia. my suspicion is that there is not enough power from the inverter to send a signal out the vga port, but im not sure how to check it.

    miak69,

    The power required to drive a vga output is minimal, so I'm having some trouble understanding how that one part of the computer would be affected by the inverter and nothing else. When you say everything works but the display how do you know that and what do you mean?

    Don't take this as too critical, but you need to be more specific in describing the setups that do and don't work. It would be helpful if you completely described what the setup and all the parts are. When you start saying mains is 24vdc and you put that into the psu to get it to work, etc. you've lost me, and I think everyone else.

    A picture would be best, but lacking that, try to describe EXACTLY what the power source is for the pc, monitor etc and how they're connected.

    Something like in-car setup that doesn't work:
    24vdc or whatever (direct to battery, etc ???) -> inverter (brand x) -> PSU (brand w) -> car pc (brand y)
    power source -> brick supply? (brand j) -> monitor (brand z)

    out of car setup that does work:
    240VAC or whatever -> PSU (????) -> PC
    ??? -> ??? -> monitor
