Maybe next time we can all come up with a rube goldberg suicide-death machine, if things dont start looking up for you.

Ausi319: I wouldn't give up life just because of this solar panel thing....
I would at least wait until your wife cheats on you or you loose your job or something like that.

    If anything LEARN from this

and if you still want to pursue the r/c car thing join a club or a forum dedicated to r/c cars. Go ask at your local hobby shop or something.

I guess the real question is did you learn ohms law out of all this? And the relationship between battery capacity and current draw?

Your 1500mAH battery that lasts for 7 minutes in an RC Car.

7 minutes in hours is 7/60 or 0.117 Hours. 1500milli-Amp-Hours/0.117Hours = 12 amps on average over 7 minutes for your battery.

If you're going to build a solar array to replace the battery in a way that it has the same performance of the battery it would need to produce 7.5 volts at 12,000millamps.

Your average 3 inch solar cell is 0.5 volts and 1000mA output.

15 of them would get you to 7.5 volts at 1000mA. 12 rows of 15 would get you to the 12,000milliamps at 7.5 volts to match that your which your battery puts out over the course of 7 minutes.

So basically 180 3-inch solar cells will replace your battery, but now it wouldn't last for just 7 minutes, it will run all day. But then the next problem is how much they weigh. 180 solar cells with a support frame probably weighs at least 20 pounds, which will slow down your RC car. And any wind from the massive sail would knock your car over. It would be pretty funny looking though.

The grinding of the solar cells into pixie dust was pretty funny though.. You probably don't want to inhale.

I hope I didn't just give a terrorist a lesson in electronics.. That would suck.

It's ok. I think it would be hard to conceal a backpack bomb with a huge solar array sitting next to it!

Ausi , if its any consolation , you had our attention the whole way through this and i think its one of the best threads i have been involved in , or for that matter read in quite a while.

I know your frustrated at not being able to get your car going the way you want but life isnt fair and some things just dont work out the way we want.
Dont get totally depressed about a silly RC car and just put any setbacks you get in life down to a learning experience. If you learn one small thing a day, eventually a lot more things will make sense to you.

Anyway, you made me smile and your idea was sound in theory , but in practise its just too bulky to work. It will work if you try it , but it will be huge and the car will barely move, so it really is a waste of time , but it was a good way to think and dont let us or any other smartarses discourage you from thinking outside the box.

Well done and i hope you come back with more theories for us, but next time , if a few say it cant be done or give u a better solution , might be best to listen.... then again what do we know ? we base all of our knowledge on devices that are already invented and theories that have not yet been disproved , but history has shown that new ideas are always emerging and theories are being disproved and replaced with better ones all of the time.

I think you did well just attempting to research this idea , you just stumbled upon some bored sarcastic people who needed a bit of fun for themselves and we happened to find you

First of all, Rob Whithey deserves a hand for his repeated attempts to answer the question with good, legit information. In spite of this being an MP3Car forum about putting computers in cars, he patiently attempted to help this misguided youth (who will probably grow up to be a surgeon, folks, who operates on one of us when we're senior citizens, so update that will). JC-S60 offered much the same quality of advice, as did 2k1toaster. Bravo, sirs!

Bugbyte & H3rc, well done with the flux capacitor references!

DJtaz, you were the conscience of the thread before anyone else, which was good. Even though the OP's posts eventually turned your opinion, you cared, and that reflects well on the community. The air-powered suggestions: top notch.

2L_SS, kudos for bringing hamsters into the conversation. No alternate energy discussion is complete without them.

If I'm forgetting anyone, please accept my apologies, and maybe we can call out the various posters we enjoyed most on this thread. It's been a team effort, and hopefully the jaded, bitter young person who emerges from Ausi's shell will grow into jaded, bitter old person like all of us.

    Take a bow, folks!
    You forgot yourself you silly

I really laughed whilst reading some of your posts!
