    i have about 31266 mp3's 120 gig's and it takes about 12 min
to boot up the pc and MMJ , with just the pc running the hard drives
powerd off and the vid off
how long do you think it would run with the car off

The battery of the car isnt design to do that kinda thing, (long time usage when the car is stopped) ...

    and 12min(!?)

Mine boots up in 4 - 5 sec (STR/S3) Suspend to ram)

You should try anything like, hibernation or suspend to ram mode, this way the carputer would not use that much amp (or nothing at all when in Hibernation mode) Dont think hibernation would help you that much.. maybe,, dunno..

Hibernation (aka suspend to disc) does little more than write the ram to disk then power off so when you power on it restores that state... It should be relatively fast as compared to booting up.. but 12 minutes is absolutely absurd...

mp3car system is currently FUBAR and finances do not allow for a correction of that situation

the computer is still in the house i haven't made any mods yet
the pc starts from power off to windows in about 2 min
then when i start MMJ it takes 8 Min to load it with all the Mp3's
    120 Gig's.
when I had only 60 Gig's it took only 3-4 sec

In that case, i recomend using another software that doesn't do the silly things that cause MMJ to take 3 decades to load!

try checking to see if there is an option to load the mp3s without reading the file information.

in winamp, you can set it so that it loads the files, and when it plays the song, it reads the id3 tags. it saves a lot of load time in winamp. i dont know about MMJ

With my last setup I could leave my system on for about 2 Hrs. without the car running. I never let it go past that in fear of killing the bat.

My setup was a Celeron 566, 40gig HD, 150W. PSU, ATI Radeon AIW PCI, and an Audigy Sound card running off a 300W inverter wired to the bat. I would leave the screen off but everything else stayed on without hybernation or the like.

I could even start the car with out the computer rebooting after 2 Hrs..

If you are going to run a system off the battery for a long time, make sure you have a deep cycle battery.

Regular car batteries are damaged when they are drained down all the way and recharged back up. With deep cycle batteries, it doesnt matter if the battery is drained, and recharged. (They will still die just like other batteries, but it wont damage them.)
