Sproggy Troubleshooting
Hey guys,
I managed to build myself a Sproggy and I'm having trouble getting it to return any kind of voltages. I'm testing it with a 12 V AT power supply. The design is 2.8+. I'm using the Renco RL-5533 with pins 8 and 9 reversed. The heatsinks are isolated. All the capacitors and diodes are in the right polarity. When I apply the voltage the LED does not turn on and the relay does not kick in. I tried shorting the relay it does not work. How can I do some simple troubleshooting? Whats a good way to check for any short circuits? Thanks.

Yeah, I got it working....sort of... seemed there was a short somewhere. Anyway, I cleaned the traces and shorted the relay and that lit up the LED. I've got the +12, +5, +3.3, and -12 voltages but the -5V rail reads something like -11 or -12. Whats the deal? Maybe I'm reading it wrong? And will the relay work once I put a load on it?

Ah yes, I see the problem now. The diagram wasn't clear and I used the 78L05 where I should have used the 79L05. It wasn't clear on the diagram. Hopefully the relay will work when I fix the supply. Does anyone know where to get one of these chips without paying the $10 for a minimum order? Thanks.
