Shutdown Controller Ideas/Help needed
OK, i am trying to set this up, so it will automatically shutdown my player, and i am using a plugin for winamp/windows called COM-Port Winamp Control (not the same one as Bkonings) this one is at http://diba.by.ru/comctrl/ it also supports 15 buttons! It has way more functions and can also Shutdown, Restart, open a file, etc. I am wondering if somebody has a circuit that could do this for me:
When i turn of the ignition on my car, i need something to countdown, and then jumper two pins of the serial port together, just like pressing a button, and then it would shutdown properly. Are there currently any circuits that would do this? Anyone have any other ideas???
Thanks.

I'm using the exact same plugin in my setup. I’m using it for back up controls and a few other small things at this point.
I'm building a circuit using a Basic Stamp 2sx to take care of my shutting down and taking load off of me in debugging errors. My circuit can shut down the computer via that plugin but it was looking a bit more reliable to just jump the pins for the power switch with a relay. It’s still set up to use the plugin for a back up method of shutting down.
I also have some plans for a 12C508 based shutdown circuit that should be dirt cheap to build. I don’t have software for it or any thing though. I bet you could build it and write the software to do every thing you need.
If you want I can get you the schematics I have drawn up for ether one.
edit: I used 'I'm' & 'I' to many time in this post...

Tomb my friend i have something for you below is the details.
This controller designed by a Jeff from this forum.
What this controller does is when you removes your key from the ignition it will wait 0~15min for you to return if you do return in that time nothing happens if not then the controller sends a ATX pluse to your Mobo atx pins telling it to shutdown. then after 0~2min cuts power to the Carplayer.
Now this can be modified for your needs as in the ATX pluse is nothing but ground for 2 second on that wire so with this you can connect a small relay which is connected to your serial port wires and when the relay kicks voila your happy ..
Think about it

Are you still selling these? Do you sell kits for them???

Using Com-port winamp should shut down Windows properly all the time. The button on the front of your computer might or might not shut down windows properly, it depends on the motherboard.
Unless you know how to program a pic, go with Mastero's controller if he is selling a kit. It's probably simpler.
