mstaedt, glad you are making some progress on your truck.
This is a very helpful thread and giving me a lot of idea for when I re-wire the Tahoe. Actually, we want to shave the factory mast antenna off, does anyone have any good directions they can point me in for a good replacement?
I also have this issue, using an m2-atx with a window antenna. I have an idea, and won't mention it until I try it because it will not please anyone unless it works, but it has to do with the grounding points.

Ran into a little trouble here. The wiring harness that includes my ignition wire also includes the wire from the PSU to turn on the amps and also my 12V rail out and 5V rail out wires. I plugged all that in at once and reception was back in the toilet. So I split up the connector and started plugging stuff back in 1 wire at a time. I got as far as the ignition wire in and amp wire out with no issues. I also plugged the 12V rail out wire back in, but it isn't actually powering anything right now because I still have the HD tuner running off the battery on the floor.Quote:

Progress may be slow for a while. One of my two test stations (88.5 HD-3) seems to be having issues with their transmitter and they've been broadcasting only analog since yesterday.
And an unrelated problem - either my M2-ATX or my mobo is starting to act up. Sometimes I need to whack the case once to get the PC to start booting up. I may end up switching back to the Opus sooner than planned.

I've recently taken interest in this thread.
While at first I thought it would confirm my suspicions abount the quality of mini-box's products, it doesn't appear that is the case.
Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned a faraday cage, as well as enclosing the PC itself in wire mesh.
All good ideas, I think.
Another idea is to shield cables in something like TechFlex Flexo Conductive.
(Well, I think it's a good idea, anyway...)
Admittedly, that could possibly be marketing hype. I have seen TechFlex's products and they are quality. This might be worth looking into to shield cables.Quote:

The funny thing about that techflex is that COAX cable already has a shielding cable just like that built in and without it any signal down that wire would really suck. in CATV world, your reception would go down the toilet if this would be broken in any place along the cable. I guess you could double shield it, make sure it is terminated to ground at one end so the noise if any is grounded and has some place to go.
I am curious about the moving of grounding point idea and the re-routing of certain wires idea. Keep up the troubleshooting and there might be a good explanantion sooner or later.
88.5 is back on the air digital, and I solved my problem with the computer cutting out.

I plugged the Visteon back into the original under-carpet wiring harness. The ferrite ring is still installed. All OK
I plugged the main power wires to the computer back into the truck harness, but still had the ignition input wire running off the battery-on-the-floor. Still OK
Ran a wire straight from the fuse panel to the ignition input on the PC. I took this intermediate step because I think a big part of the problem is coming from the fact that ALL the wires to and from the PC are bundled together. It seems that the ignition in, amp out, 12V rail out, and 5V rail out wires are particularly unhappy about that. So I'm moving REALLY slowly with these. Still OK
I've now completely weaned the system from the battery-on-the-floor without any major change in performance, so I took a big step this morning and plugged the monitor back in and also re-installed the wifi antenna. One of those did have a minor negative effect on reception. It's still decent, but my favorite (weak) station cut out a couple of times for a few seconds on the way to work.
I could live with it like it is, but I still have to plug the amps back into the M2-ATX and run the 12V and 5V rail wiring back to their components.
I ran across some shielded wire at work yesterday. I may experiment with that some...
