Hi,
Ah, I didn't know your computer only required the +5V.
I'va done a search in google on "DC DC converter 12V 5V" and found a 40W 12V to 5V (8A) converter:
http://www.elektroautomatik.de/pdfenglish/page61-65.pdf
It's a german company but I'm pretty sure there are more companies on the world selling those things. So just do a search and you will fing one suitable for you.
With such an converter the only thing you need is a fuse, I think. Place it between the converter and your battery. 40W devided by 12V is 3.3A, so use a slow blow fuse that is about 5A. You don't want to blow your fuse because of the peak current when powering it on.
Good luck!
Get some vero board, and build this circuit, combine two of them to get 10amp, more than enough. Should be around $15US to knock this up.
