Thread: will this CNX-P2140 power a Nettop

from what i can see in the user manual (not sure if you've looked at it) it is a pulse based SSC device, meaning that like your normal computer on button, it has to only be on momentarily.

however with the "ignition override" function that this item has, once the pulse is sent, and the ignition turned on, the ignition takes over as pulse driver, thus leaving the unit on till the ignition is cut.

short answer, you should be fine

FYI personally i hate the idea of 5 channel car amps, would more recommend getting a good 4 channel and monoblock combo.

i am un decided about the amp as of now. i dont need alot or power just need small. i might just do a 4 channel with new speakers. my big concern is getting a power supply that will work with a pre built PC. i know that the small ones use a DC adapter for cars like a phone or the asus EEE nettop.

The P2140 is a great unit.
Whether it will work with your hardware or not really depends on the voltage required by the unit.
Check the power brick of your netbook for the output voltage.

As far as turning on/off with the ignition, you'll have to open the computer to wire the P2140 to the power button. That will definitely void any warranty and wil destroy any portability of a netbook.

if you are so inclined and the netbook is able, a wake on lan configuration could be used to remote start the comp

making sure that its only ever in a soft off hibernate type state (which is easy enough) the WOL configure can work, with a make shift LAN connecter as its only a voltage signal that is used to turn on the netbook.

an idea to look at

looking at the asus page on the EEEBox B201 base model it needs 20VDC and 65watts compared to the top model B206 that uses 12VDC and 36watts

if you go for the B206 model, a 12volt regulator will do you easily, at only 3 amps the regulator could literally be only 2inch x 1inch

something to think about

i am lookin at the top model B206. It comes with bluetooth that i am hoping is compatible with the front end i am going to use. I like it mostly because i would always pull it out and move it easy. Not just a regulator but some kind of controlled to turn it on and off. I dont want it to kill the battery.

no stress there, you could get either a combo regulator + SSC or seperately

i like all the extra wires it has for power things like amp trigger and other such things.
