DC-DC regulator need thoughts

Need some of our more experienced members to give me thoughts on this regulator, I want to use it on a Xenarc monitor and for a USB hub.

1 - Xenarc monitors don't require regulated power, last I checked. Lilliputs do require regulated power. Check the specs of your monitor to be 100% certain.
Granted, regulating the power to a Xenarc that doesn't require it would not hurt anything. It's just unnecessary.

2 - Most (not all) USB hubs require 5v power. The regulator would only work with a USB hub that requires 12vDC. A USB hub that requires 5vDC can be powered from the PC's power supply.

3. That regulator will not keep powering devices during engine crank, as the voltage would drop below the 13v threshold. An engine cranking will show voltage drop to 8-10v, typically. I don't know if that is anything important to you or not.

Based on what I pointed out, why do you believe you need a 12v regulator?

Just some extra protection for the monitor , and I'd like to run a 12v USB hub I already have.

Unless you go with a buck boost converter (wide input) power supply, you will lose power to your screen and usb hub(if you're using your 12v model) during engine cranks.

If your psu can supply the current, that would be ideal. I don't have an external hub, but I do power my 10.4" lilliput off of my m1-atx's 12v rail where it draws over an 1A, and that works pretty good. What are you working with hardware-wise?

I'm selling off my old system in the classifieds. I'm Putting in a Xenarc 700TSV, with a M350 case and D945GCLF2 motherboard. The power supply will be an M4-ATX. My usb hub is a generic from years ago. I am going to mount the monitor in the dash and the same for the USB hub. Fabrication should be minimal, and I think I'll follow JustinTime's (forum link) work on his CR-V since it's almost identical to mine. I am trying to do this install so that my kid can't get to the computer or wires.

Actually it's also why I have a new to me SUV, the kid would not fit in the Tiburon.

Basically the regulator I want needs to eventually protect some head rest monitors I will use for the kid later. That's the short of it for now, it may expand over time.

The second is only a step down, so you probably wouldn't get 12 volts out unless your input stayed above 13.5 or so volts (didn't see how much headroom it needed anywhere). Ie - only when your car is running.

The anyvolt looks promising. It has an ok efficiency rating too.
