Question What is the best program for designing circuits and PCBs?

I was just wondering what is the easiest program to use for generating schematic diagrams and layouts and PCBs like the stuff that we have for sproggy? I've seen quite a few out there, and the latest protel sample seems to be 140MB and a 600MB install?? Seems a little crazy for something simple, no?

Does anyone know what sproggy did his in, and where it can be found? I'm just looking for something simple that's hopefully easy to use as well.

    Thanks!

(I tried to do a search and couldn't find anything, but then again this isn't a very clearly defined search.)

Im using Orcad Pspice/capture/layout. I like it. People Ive talked to that have used orcad and protel seem to like protel. some of the examples ive heard about is that with orcad you have to watch that your traces dont run through other pads while orcad will not let you do that. Im just begining now, so I dont know.

I use Orcad Capture CIS. If you are in college your EE department probably has it.

You can get all my design source in the DIY thread...

So you get all the footprint for a sproogy...

    Protel is "quite" simple...

What version of protel are you using?

I tried the 99 trial version and gave up. I kept getting ODBC errors and couldn't figure out how to do anything. (Mind you, I only gave it ~5 minutes. I have very low tolerance for things with poor usability)
