    start up issue

I am running a biostar mb, 4 usb ports being used, pci dual vga video card. Power supply is a m2- atx. Everything runs fine until a couple of days ago. From Hibernation the boot screen tells me the date and time are wrong, I change it in bios reboot and it works, following afternoon no boot. Pc always goes into hibernation when turned off. I can see the cpu fan turn on and spin but dont see boot screen on monitor. This has happened a couple of times and i rip it out hook up for a bench test and it works. Re install and its gd like nothing happened. Right now I ripped it out and am looking for input as to root of issue.

I have left cpu in car and tried a bench test using extension cord and psu, got no love.

    thx drew

How old is the motherboard? It sounds like the BIOS battery might be dying.

That battery provides enough power for the BIOS to retain settings, nothing more.

To add on to Darque's post - if the BIOS settings are lost, then the entire boot sequence is impacted. Your settings are lost and reset to default, which can affect Windows.

would that be why the cpu does not kick on, or shouldnt I see a boot screen?

    Possibly.
I don't know how you define "boot screen".
Do you see the POST, or the attempt at POST?

If the CMOS battery is dead, then you've probably lost your CMOS settings and the POST is halting on a configuration error or somesuch.
I'd try hooking up a different monitor and seeing what POST tells you.

If it's not attempting to POST, then there's a completely different issue.

i get nothing on the screen, just the cpu fan is spinning. This has happened before and what I do is pull it out, bring it in my house. hook everything up and it boots. Then re-install and it works for a few months then back to squar one.
