    m4 or m2 atx power supplys

    hi, whats the difference between the m4 and m2 atx power supplys, just putting together my car pc and just wanted to clear this up before i waste money on the wrong one..

    the shape and the power output. and the m2 requires a 4pin-flat to 4pin-square adapter for boards that require cpu power.

    check one of the many online computer power calculators, and use the one that works for that power amount.

    you could list what hardware you plan to use and we could give you some better advice

    the M4-atx is a bit more work to get mounted
    the M2-atx is usually a drop-in replacement for "dc-board" type cases; ie - 5677, 3688, GA677, etc

    m4-atx operates @ 6~30 V and puts out a peak of 250w
    m2-atx operates @ 6~24 V and puts out a peak of 160w; alternatively the high voltage M2-atx is 6~32 V and 140w

    there's other differences as well, but it would help to know what your plans are for MB, CPU, HDD's, and other major peripherals (LCD, audio card, gps, etc)
