question regarding the use of the PicoUPS to provide power when OPUS psu is offline.

    Hello,
I am interested in the Pico UPS as found in the mp3Car store : http://goo.gl/ns6kB

my intention is to provide uninterrupted power for two lilliput screens.

I want to give them with regulated 12v power from my OPUS 250w PSU as opposed to simply plugging them into the cigarette lighter.(the screens flicker every time i start the car)
There is a slight issue with this scenario : I use one of the monitors for my reverse camera. the PSU takes about 90seconds to turn on from the moment i start the car.
this is often a hassle, having to wait 1.5 mins to reverse the car.

i want to use the picoUPS to draw power from the cigarette lighter when the PSU isnt providng power.

    is this a recommended setting?

because you said that you want the screens to get regulated power, i would say that this is not a recommended solution, as connecting it to the cigarette lighter would send the screens unregulated power.

it might be a better idea to use a small stand-alone dc-dc(buck/boost) regulator for this.

with this proposed setup , the monitors will only by powered by the cigarette plug for about 1.5mins ; just until the opus PSU kicks in.

I won't mind that timeframe of unfiltered power.

right now both monitors are being powered by the cigarettelighter, simply looking for a permanently clean power setup.

In my mind that picoUPS is a perfect solution to your problem have the opus on the side of the ups thats the main side and feed ignition power to the battery side of the ups once opus and computer boot up they will switch over as the power. But you will still need a regulator to control voltage as the picoUPS is not a regulated 12v.. SNO
