    Pw-60

ok, I bought a PW-60 for a EPIA M9000 mobo. I wired my car for the PSU. I hooked up the mobo and a 2.5 laptop hard drive. Now everytime I turn it on, it blows my hard drive, but the mobo is just fine no problems. Is the PSU bad?

    Any one else getting this?

    Regulate

You need to regulate either the 12v comming in or going out of the PSU. If it is blowing your harddrive like that I imagine that it will only be a matter of time until the motherboard goes.

ya,, theres a reason those psu only cost like $50. They are not made to be placed in a car. If you use a multimeter you will notice you'll get as much as 14V going down that 12v line. So that PSU is just passing the 14 volt right on to the motherboard and drive. You probably also noticed your ans spinning faster.

The maker claims they are designed to work in a car. Laptop hdd's don't connect to the 12v line so that shouldn't be the cause of the problem unless yours is wired up wrong.

    >I was wondering - does this unit have a voltage regulator built in ? what are the minimum and maximum voltage requirements (on the input side) of this PSU ?

    >Thanks

The DC input voltage rating on this unit is from 10.5-16volts. Above and below that, the unit will automatically shut down your pc. I have included a zip file containing my FAQ for you. Let me know if I can answer any more questions. In a month or so I will have a power sequencer available designed for use with these DC DC boards that will allow you to boot and shut down your pc with your car's iginition switch. Thanks for your interest. Brian

Sounds like the same guy I talked to. I had asked him a month or so ago about the power sequencer and he said to check back later, maybe I'll send him a mail and see.
