    Need a bit more juice?

    Hey,

I've been doing my car mod for a while now and putting everything together (even made a custom plexiglass case for my mobo ), the only problem is, I've held off on the power issue too long.

Now I've noticed a lot of you recommend these Opus Solutions ATX PSUs, but I'm wondering if 150 watts will be enough juice for my setup.

    I'm planning on running a:

850 MHz AMD Athlon (Slot A)
Asus K7M mobo (built in sound)
    256 mb PC133 SDRAM
    20 GB WD 5400 RPM ATA100
    Voodoo3 3000 AGP

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you think it'd need at least in the 250 watt range for a PSU? I love the features on the Opus deal, especially that it can shut it down to standby automatically with the ignition deal, but will 150 watts be enough??

The only reason I'm using this setup is because I've had this computer lying around for a while now, and just decided to do a car mod. Anyways, recommendations on PSUs, and whatever else I need to power my baby up is needed.

In the sticky at the top of this forum is a Power Calculator. You don't need to know just the watts, but also how many amps per rail required. Then check out the data sheet at Opus to see how much it puts out on each rail. Be warned, the calc does not figure the CPU into amps per rail. You will need to convert the watts to amps depending on the rail it uses. I believe an AMD uses the 5V?

If you still got question, ask Kris at Opus.

    For comparison, I currently run a P4 2.4Ghz, MSI MB, 512DDR, 20GB 7200RPM ATA 133, Radeon 32MB DDR on the 150W Opus.
