Of course I have checked the power calculator but there is no VIA C3 800 processor.
Does anyone know the EPIA 800 power consumption?
Hi guys,
I have prepared my first MP3CAR system on my PT Cruiser.... it's an EPIA 800 with a WD 120 gb hard drive and 7" 16:9 LCD monitor.
I would like to connect also a cd-rom drive but I'm afraid to overload the PSU, an MK 2.8+
I have said that it can handle 1.3A @ 12V and 5A @ 5 V .
My 8x cd-rom burner (it consumes less than a dvd-rom drive) takes 1.6A @ 5V and 0.6A @ 12V. The hard disk takes 0.8A @ 5V and 0.4A @ 12V . These data are taken from the specifications sticker.
I have measured these two devices with a tester and in some circustances (boot, cd-rom load) they take 1.3-1.5A @12V.
I would like to know if anyone has attached all these devices with the same PSU without problem and the PEAK power of Sproggy PSU @ 12 V .
Is it useful to buy a dvd-rom for notebooks?
here in Italy are quite expensive, 140 euros..
Thanks a lot,
Nic Galla

I think you should be fine adding a CD-ROM. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply GuruGod.
I'll try the whole thing on a testbed at home, I have to buy a transformer and a thermometer
I have read that Sproggy PSU can handle 2A @ 12 V , is it true?

I'm not too sure. If I have some time I will sit down with a multimeter and find out for you.

Thank you! Tomorrow I'll make some measurement tests on my carputer to find out more about temperatures and high power load. I'll write a post about that.
But it's strange, Sproggy PSU are very popular and NOBODY knows something......

Where did you come across the 1.3A @12V and 5A @5V for the Mk2.8?
The sproggy site, http://www.roshanindustries.com/carmp3/shop.htm
lists the mk2.6 2A @12V and 6A @ 5V. I haven't seen any data for the mk2.8 but assumed it the current output would be the same or more than the mk2.6.
Heh, it's funny how Mastero's site has now become "the sproggy site". This is an archived version of the original Sproggy site, but it's a bit old:

Might give you some history if you need it.
