    Question to help another

    I have been researching these carputers an reach different levels of completion on different cars. I have another dude on Facebook that wants to do one. I keep telling him that hookup an inverter to the battery is NOT a good idea. Any words of wisdom convince him out of it?

    Its a super inefficient way to do it. The battery provides DC current, which computers run off of. Why add systems that are not needed to convert the power from DC to AC and then back to DC (with a computer PSU). A car PSU will also power your computer on and off when your car itself is r

    Ditto.
    DC converters are the way to go. Tho they are still DC-AC-DC they do it all internally and at high frequency, hence very efficient.
    Plus they are much smaller physically; have higher voltage range (cranking ride thru etc).
