    UPS as an inverter?

    Hey, I was just thinking, an uninteruptable power supply runs off of a 12v battery, so what if you ditched that battery and ran it straight off of the car battery? You can get them pretty cheap with a dead battery. Any opinions on whether this would be a viable alternative to an inverter?

    It's not, UPSs are not meant to run for extended periods of time. Search.

    Any good explaination why not? I've searched the forums and didn't find any other threads on using a UPS.
