    UPS as an inverter?

Hey, I was just thinking, an uninteruptable power supply runs off of a 12v battery, so what if you ditched that battery and ran it straight off of the car battery? You can get them pretty cheap with a dead battery. Any opinions on whether this would be a viable alternative to an inverter?

It's not, UPSs are not meant to run for extended periods of time. Search.

I see, I guess I'm not the first person to think of that then.

Any good explaination why not? I've searched the forums and didn't find any other threads on using a UPS.

edit: nevermind, I found the answers while browing old threads
