    PSU electronic help

I plan on making a PSU similar to the sproggy, but I will use a Car-CD power cable/recharger, so in theory will not need a regulator, but I just need to convert the 12v into 3.3, 5, -5 and 12v outputs.

How can I do this, what parts do I need? I am a novice in electronics, but know how to solder, so instructions and theories in English would be very appeciated.

I've already made a sproggy PSU but was hoping to make it smaller without all the regulator parts that I now don't need.

Can anyone help please, or is this plan not sound?

Well, the cd player recharger jobby will probably put out something like 500mA or maybe 1A, for a 60W power supply you will need 5A, 500mA will give you 6W of power for your computer

Find out if your adapter can supply enough current. I dont think it can supply enough.

And most importantly check if the said 12V output is really is 12V, how well its regulated.

Thats the first stage you should investigate on, hope that helps

Take a look at the sticker on the charger thingy, it should tell you the input and output voltages, along with how much power they give out (will probably be something like 250mA or 500mA at most)

You will probably need at least 5A for most computer DC-DC power supplies
