    Poor Mans Opus

Ok, this Opus lead time is killing me. I reasearched into doing my own board layout, but that could take a few weeks. So upon further research, I came up with the following solution.

DISCLAIMER: Solution requires knowledge, experience and skill of electronics. This is not a plug and play solution, rather it will require some effort on your part to put it together without blowing $hit up.

According to the www.mini-box.com power calculator, you need the following voltages for my Epia-M 10000 system. Your system may be different, so go check out the max current draw for your configuration.

    3.3V @ 3.4A
    5V @ 3.2A
    5V Standby @ 140 mA
    12V @ 1.26A

    For 5V, I found this:
    http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...search=AA9090A
    for $6.95, works from 5V - 20V outputs 5.1V @ 3.75A

For 3V, use a 2nd 5V module and add this:
    http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...earch=219150cf
    for $6.95 plus $10.25 , works from 5V - 20V also and should spit out 3.3V @ 5A

    Now for 12V, use this:
    http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...earch=217234cf
Its $45.95 and only works down to 9.2V up to 18V. Puts out 12V @ 2.1A

So for 70 bux plus a few hours packaging and wiring, you could have a fairly efficient 60W DC power supply that runs down to 9.2V.

If I could just find a cheaper 12V solution that runs down to 7V, then I might just try it.

I'm just about coming to the same conclusion as you, phc. Now that I found out that my Opus really wasn't in stock and it'll be 4 weeks. In 4 weeks here, there could be a foot of snow on the ground. Everything else on my project is ready to install.

I suppose you could add zootjeff's powerdown timer for another $30, but now you'd be at $100 and still wouldn't have the ignition sensing. And If I'm going to build something, it's GOING to fit inside the C134 case...but what the hell, now I've got 4 weeks with nothing to do but twiddle my pud on this anyway.

http://www.dashmatics.com/product_in...fe1a332d0d09ee this shutdown/startup controller and a simple dc psu (pw-70 or 12ow of ebay or sproggy) would be just like an opus (kinda) feature wise. this is what I should have done

Hey, the DSSC is out of stock also.

No snow here, just want to have this thing done for Thansgiving so I can enjoy that 8 hour ride (that should only take 4.5 hrs) up to San Francisco.

I got a few BasicX's laying around, I could use that to whip up a startup/shutdown controller with remote turn on, delayed turn off, etc.

Why not the MPBS1? http://home.comcast.net/~zootjeff/ You can get these shipped out fast.

Or get a sproggy from mastero and see if you can be the person who gets it working with the m10000. That is likely to be easier than building a PSU from scratch. I'm using an epia 5000 so it works great for me http://www.roshanindustries.com/carmp3/shop.htm

    Unhappy

    I don't have two cents.
But I do have a copper pipe that I found in the street, I'll just smelt it and make my own, uh, coppery stuff!
